Located in Quixinglou street, one of Chengdu’s oldest street in the oldest urban area of Shaocheng, Mintown Youth Cultural Creativity Center was just another unimpressive building until 2013 when a group of cultural creatives born after 1970s decided to make a difference. Six months later, a black architecture with great sense of modernity appeared and soon became the base of more than 30
local creative groups that are engaged in photography, filming, music production, carpentry, cultural popularization, design and wine business. It is truly a staging area of Chengdu local creatives.

Compared with Mingtang Youth Cultural Creativity Center, the Cultural Creative Industrial Park at No.35 Hongxing Road, also known as Red Star 35, came much earlier. Renovated from vacant old factories and schools, the Cultural Creative Industrial Park is the f irst cluster for advertisement and creative industries in western China. It started commercial operation in 2008 and was recognized as national pilot park for advertisement industries in 2012. By 2013, over 200 advertisement companies have settled in the industrial park, including 4A enterprises like Altavia and Apex Ogilvy, with the production value of RMB 2.27 billion.

In recent years, Chengdu’s dedication to promote the development of cultural creative industries has lead to the presence of Jinli Pedestrian Street, Kuan and Zhai Alley, Red Star 35, and Eastern Suburbs. These characteristic urban creative venues have attracted not only local creative talents to stay, but also those in other cities like Beijing and Shanghai to move over. Chengdu is a city where creative talents wouldn’t want to leave once they come.
