On May 25, 2014, the g r and f ina le of 5th Ant a lya Internat iona l Dr ama Fes t iva l came from Yuhaikuangchao (Sea of Raging Desire), a Sichuan drama adapted from the masterpiece of Desire Under the Elms by American drama giant Eugene O'Neill. The audiences were completely stunted by the charm of f ine traditional Chinese culture. Yuhaikuangchao is one of many Chengdu original cultural and art productions that have been successful ly presented on global stage in recent years.

Since its premiere in 2005, the Jinsha musical has been performed for over 2000 times and constantly toured on domestic and oversea stages. Earlier this year, Legend of Jinsha, an acrobatic show premiered in 2009, reached an accumulated number of 3500 performances and has been per forming in Beijing until recently. From Yuhaikuangchao to the latest Dust Settles, Sichuan drama hasga ined enormous amount of audience and even become popular among young people.

The commercial performance market is as equivalently thriving, where ballets, star music concerts and folk sing and dancing shows constantly fight over the stage. It can be said that Chengdu ranks the third as the city of performing arts after Beijing and Shanghai. Under the promotion of Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, charity show, compared with high-end commercial performance, has gained dramatic development in the past f ive years with a total of 10000 performances, involving 10 million participants from the city. In a word, art is everywhere in Chengdu.

After institutional reform, state-owned art institutions in Chengdu such as Sichuan opera troupe, Beijing opera troupe, folk art troupe, folk music orchestra, modern drama troupe, and puppet show troupe offer a much complete category of performing arts and talents. With constantly growing strength, these institutions start to gain leading positions among national ranking. On April 29, 2014, Chengdu folk music orchestra performed in the highest arena of art in China, National Center for the Performing Arts, and amazed a great number of Beijing audiences.
