With a history of more than two thousand years, Shu brocade originated from a type of silk fabrics produced in Chengdu Sichuan province back in the Warring State Period. It is a type of colorful brocade with Han national features and local style. Shu brocade is known as one of the four great brocades of China together with Yun brocade in Nanjing, Song brocade in Suzhou, and Zhuang brocade in Guangxi. In 2006 weaving technique of Shu brocade was included in the f irst batch of intangible culture projects protected at national level.
