Donghuamen relics

Located at the south side of Chengdu sports center, the excavation of Donghuamen relics revealed cultural heritage spanning some 1000 years from Han Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. Moke pool, architectural relics and the waterway of palace of Shu king in Ming Dynasty can be referred as geological coordinates and historic evidence to study downtown area of ancient Chengdu and are also cultural backbones for Chengdu’s identity as a historic and cultural city.

Adhering to the guidel ine of prioritizing protect ion and rescue, with proper utilization under strengthened management, Chengdu spends a designated financial allocat ion of more than RMB 10 million in cultural heritage protection every year. By 2014, Chengdu has 568 cultural relic protection sites (including 38 national sites) of various categories and classes among 6354 immovable cultural rel ics and is car rying out a general survey on movable cultural relics around the city.

In 2010, State Administration of Cultura l Her itage included 35 ancient cultural relics with extraordinary value in 24 sites of Chengdu as national protected large sites for systematic preservation. The cultural relic protection work of Chengdu expanded from single site to an entire sector. In 2013, in order to comprehensively elevate the standard of cultural relics protection and management, Chengdu issued, for the very f irst time in the country, Large Site Protection and Management Regulation, which marked the beginning of a comprehensive and legal protection process of large sites in Chengdu.
