Laoguanshan tombs from Han Dynasty

Discovery of Laoguanshan tombs from Han dynasty in Tianhui Township in 2013 rewrote Chinese history of textile and medicine. All these major archaeological discoveries have been included as top 10 national archaeological discoveries of the year. The relic of Donghuamen unearthed in 2014 is considered a milestone in the archaeological history of Chengdu. Such discovery is of great signif icance to the historical and cultural development of Chengdu. These groundbreaking archaeological discoveries are putting together a clear picture of Chengdu’s development pattern and even the origin of Chinese civilization.

Located in Tianhui Township in Jinniu district, the Laoguanshan tombs were found during an archeological salvation effort at local metro construction site, where a total of 4 timber graves from Western Han Dynasty were unearthed, along with a number of wooden lacquer ware, pottery, cooper and iron ware dating back to 2000 years ago. Among excavated items, there were 920 medical bamboo slips, some of which are very likely the classic medical writings of Bian Que that were thought to have been lost. 4 bamboo Shu embroidery model jacquards from Western Han Dynasty unearthed in one piece for the very first time f ill up an archeological gap in China’s silk and textile technology. And the excavation of painted doll with meridian points showing the location of heart and lungs has made many f irsts in domestic archeological f indings.
